Rollercoaster

A week ago today, we rode out on our MC’s to check out the piece of land above. It was a beaut. Good level ground for building. Lovely trees. Great access on a good quality dirt road. It was listed on Friday evening, June 25th. We went and looked at it on Saturday morning, June 26th. By the time we got home and reached out to our realtor about it, someone had already swept in and offered what we were told was a “huge” amount to secure the purchase of it. Had we had a fighting chance, we would’ve offered above asking. Another one bites the dust.

Last Sunday, we took a look at this property for sale (see above pics). This is what we’re up against people. Sure this one is well within our price range. Sure it has some good stuff going for it. But it also comes with a bench full of friendly/creepy dolls to greet you when you pull up; more doll parts strewn around the land; and an immense amount of work to do via cleanup of on-site debris from old fallen structures, battered vehicles, and rusted out appliances. To say this one is a fixer-upper would be an understatement. Just to restore this land back to its natural state will take months of hard labor and a good chunk of money to haul everything off the mountain.

We’ve looked at two more properties in the past 5-days. We looked at a brand new listing just yesterday, located right here in Missoula on Bear Creek Run Rd off Upper Miller Creek. It looked pretty steep from what we could tell on the topo map but we figured we should take a look anyway. Yeah. So. Turns out we deciphered the topo map correctly. If we were mountain goats, it’d be perfect. But, sadly, we are not mountain goats. Another one bites the dust.

And speaking of goats, let me introduce you to some goat friends we had the pleasure of recently meeting, owned by a wonderful couple who are living off-grid near Drummond, whom we had the great fortune of getting to know and spending time with last weekend. (And bonus: perhaps these goat pics will help cleanse your pallet of the creepy doll pic images above.)

P.S When I showed Mike the doll pics I uploaded above, he said: You’re going to include those? And then I was like: Yep. I’m keepin it real. I think people deserve to see what we’re up against. (Insert laughing track here.)
