Saving Our Soul

To love knowing love always ends in disaster.
To do our best to follow our moral compass even when no one is watching, or we’re exhausted, or fed up, or we think nobody cares.

To eat knowing others are starving.
To live knowing others are dying.

To put honest effort into dissolving our illusions of separation in order to cultivate the insight of interbeing, while understanding full well we are entirely on our own when it comes to the work required to hydrate our spirit, feed our heart,
save our soul.

____________

Freedom does not require that we untether from our job or our family or the system. It requires that we liberate ourselves from old habits, bad patterns, faulty beliefs, and limited, rigid, restricted, weak, or poor ways of thinking.

The bind we’re in as humans, individually and collectively, is not the one we think we’re in. It isn’t us against the systems of oppression, injustice, consumerism, workaholism, intoxication, or emotional suppression “out there”. The bind we’re in is an internal one. The bind we’re in stems from the disconnection we have from our own body, deatchment we have from our own emotions, and the disassociation we have from our own mind. The work at hand to be done is an inside job.

If we don’t invest with vigor into nourishing the spiritual dimension of our life, we are likely to travel the path of learning how to live chronically stressed out, over extended, in debt, unhappy, depleted, checked out, and exhausted. We’re likely to become both a slave and a victim of the system. We’re likely to have such beliefs govern our life to the detriment of our own health and well-being: busyness is a badge of honor; joy is selfish (or trite or trivial) and rest is lazy; more is better and better is never enough; our worth & value as a person comes from what we do or how we look or how much we produce or get done.

There are many ways to develop the spiritual dimension of our life and we must find what works and fits and resonates for us. It is my belief that this undertaking is necessary, needed, and deeply important.

So today, dear and lovely friend, dear sweet person on this planet that we share, what are you willing to do to enliven your spirit, or inspire your heart, or tend well to how you feel, or look deeply into how to better curate the vibe of your mind, or honor your body’s need to rest, do less, and heal, or nourish the poetry of your soul?
